Andrew McDermott is a passionate educator with over 14 years of dedicated service in PK-12 education and teacher preparation. Born into a family of educators, he considers teaching the noblest profession and is committed to strengthening, promoting, and expanding quality teacher preparation.


Andrew's extensive experience in Houston, TX, public schools as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and campus administrator has fueled his deep conviction in the transformative power of well-prepared teachers. While working as a Field Supervisor, Manager of Professional Learning, and Director of Certification and Partnerships at Teaching Excellence, an alternative certification program at YES PREP Public Schools, Andrew led teams and projects focused on accelerating the effectiveness of teacher candidates through practice-based coursework, high-quality coaching structures, and streamlined certification systems. In his recent role as Program Manager at the US PREP National Center at Texas Tech University, Andrew orchestrated transformative approaches to technical assistance for teacher preparation programs, state agencies, and PK-12 school districts.


Andrew earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Rice University in Houston, Texas and is a State of Texas certified teacher. Beyond his commitment to teacher preparation, he enjoys traveling, reading novels and histories, hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, experimenting with new recipes, and staying informed through NPR. Andrew McDermott is dedicated to creating a future where all children benefit from a diverse set of well-prepared and supported expert teachers.
