Inspector

Brittany Hart, Ph.D. is a certified lead and team inspector of teacher preparation programs for TPI-US. Most recently, she served as director of Project READS NC, an investigation of statewide literacy professional development and its impact on teacher knowledge and practice. Brittany holds a B.S. in Early Childhood Education, a M.Ed. in Reading Education, a Post Master’s Certificate in Qualitative Research and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a literacy concentration. She also has certifications in Birth-Kindergarten education and K-12 Reading Education in the state of North Carolina.


Brittany has worked in K-12 and Higher Education serving in several capacities including teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in the early childhood and elementary literacy content areas, conducting research and teaching at the elementary level. She has spent several years developing learning support programs that serve children with neurodivergence. Additionally, Brittany was a learning and

reading specialist, providing reading intervention and professional development in the areas of structured literacy instruction and best practices in differentiated instruction to teachers.


Brittany’s research interests examine the intersection of science of reading content and professional development offered to teachers. She is particularly interested in centering rural teachers’ voiced needs and unique contexts in the development and implementation of professional development aimed at improving teacher practice in structured literacy instruction. Brittany enjoys football and tailgating, personal styling,

spending time with her nieces and nephews and cooking for her husband and family.
